Discuss the topic of insurance among replica and kit car enthusiasts and you’ll hear a lot of frustration and confusion. Our competitors mostly ignore the kit car market. Standard auto insurers simply don’t understand it. So if you’re the proud owner & assembler of a (for example) FFR Mark 3 roadster, what do you do? You call American Hobbyist Insurance!
We’ll provide agreed value coverage for your replica or kit car, whether it’s a $15,000 still-in-the-box investment or a road-ready vehicle worth $50,000 (or more). To qualify for coverage, you must understand & agree to the following:
- There is NO coverage for any racing or timed events
- Vehicle may not be used as a daily driver
- Vehicle must be stored in an enclosed, locked garage
- Owner must have a good driving record and at least 10 years’ driving experience
Qualified applicants should send a completed application (click here to download), several recent, clear color photos of the vehicle, and premium payment in full.
Coverage for works-in-progress
Comprehensive insurance (sometimes called “Other Than Collision” coverage) will cover “works in progress” and pays for damage to your vehicle that occurs from anything other than a collision (e.g., fire and theft). To qualify, the vehicle must be in your personal care, custody and control. You will be expected to keep us “in the loop” in terms of your project’s progression – i.e., as work progresses, coverage should increase accordingly. Upon completion of the restoration, you will want to add “full coverage” to your policy – adding collision and liability coverage so that you can register your vehicle and get it on the road.
